Route — MetaTrader 5 without a PC

Exness MT5 from a phone only: which parts of the platform arrive on a small screen

An MT5 account is the one platform choice that gives a handset two separate doors instead of one, and neither of them involves an installer. This page is written for the setup where no computer exists at all: what an MT5 account looks like when it is only ever opened on a phone, which door suits which task, and which corners of the platform stay on the far side of a desktop screen.

Two apps, one account

An MT5 account reaches a handset through two different apps

The pairing is not a duplication and neither app is a lesser copy of the other. They sign in with different keys and they are built around different jobs, which is why plenty of phone-only traders keep both installed.

Terminal

MetaTrader 5 mobile

The platform developer's own app, carrying the MetaTrader charting toolset onto a phone screen. It signs in the way every MT5 installation does — trading account number, trading password, and the exact server name.

Broker app

Exness Trade app

Simplified charts and price alerts sit alongside the account controls of the Personal Area, so funding, withdrawal, and settings never leave the app. It signs in with the Personal Area email and password, and it works with MT5-based accounts.

Browser

Personal Area, no install

The account dashboard on exness.com is a web page and answers to a phone browser like any other. It is where an MT5 account is opened in the first place and where its number and server name are read.

The browser Web Terminal is a fourth way in, but its no-install promise is written for Windows, macOS, and Linux machines. On a handset the two apps above are the routes that make sense. Web Terminal guide →

Task by task

Which app a phone-only trader opens for what

Nothing on this list requires a computer, and most of it can be done from more than one place. Knowing which app is the shortest path saves the browser hop that phone users notice most.

What the screen size changes

The account is identical; the reading of it is not

An MT5 account behaves the same whichever device signs into it. The balance, the open positions, the market prices, and the pricing of the account all live on the broker's side, so a phone is not trading a reduced version of anything. What a handset changes is how much of the platform fits in front of the eye at one time — a chart with several tools stacked on it is read in pieces rather than at a glance.

In practice that shifts habits rather than capability. Phone-only traders tend to keep fewer instruments in the watchlist, lean harder on price alerts so the phone does the waiting, and use the Trade app for anything that is not chart work. None of that is a limitation of the account.

What stays on the far side of a desktop

The desktop packages. MT5 is published for Windows, macOS, and Linux; with no computer in the setup, those three lines of the specification simply never come up.

Automated trading robots. Expert advisors are a terminal feature that belongs to the desktop side of the platform. A phone-only route means positions are placed by hand.

Trading is risky and may not be suitable for everyone, and placing orders by hand does not change that.

Where a single device gets awkward

Four things that trip up an MT5 setup with no second screen

Worth knowing before they happen

  • The server name has to be exact, and it is being copied between apps. The name sits beside the account in the Personal Area, in the browser; the login form is in the terminal app. Names in the list resemble each other closely enough that a half-remembered one is the classic reason a first sign-in fails.
  • Two apps, two different keys. The Trade app opens with the Personal Area email; the MT5 mobile terminal refuses that email and wants a number. Having both installed on one phone makes the mix-up easy and the fix instant. Which key opens which door →
  • An MT4 account cannot borrow either route. Trading accounts are opened for one platform, and the choice is fixed at creation. An MT4 account signs in through MetaTrader 4 mobile and is invisible to the Trade app. MT4 on a handset →
  • Identity verification wants the camera that is also the trading screen. Verification runs inside the Personal Area after registration, and on a phone-only setup the document is photographed with the same device that will later carry the charts. It is the one moment where having a single device is an advantage rather than a constraint.

Quick answers

MT5 on a handset: frequently asked questions

Can an MT5 account be run entirely from a phone?

Yes. Opening the account, verifying identity, funding, withdrawal, and leverage all happen in the Personal Area, which works in a phone browser, and the trading itself runs in the MT5 mobile app or the Exness Trade app. No step of the route depends on a computer being available.

Which of the two apps should a phone-only trader install?

Both, in most cases. The Trade app removes the browser trip for funding and account settings, while the MT5 mobile app carries the fuller charting toolset for anyone who reads charts closely. They connect to the same account and neither one locks the other out.

Is the phone version of MT5 a cut-down account?

No. The account, its balance, its history, and its prices sit on the broker's side; the app is a view of them. What differs between a phone and a large monitor is how much of that view is legible at once, not what the account is allowed to do.

The MT5 page offers a download for PC — is that needed?

Not for this setup. That file is a desktop installer for Windows, macOS, or Linux, and a handset has no use for it. Installing on a phone means tapping a store listing instead. If a computer joins later, the same account signs into it with the same three details.

Why does the terminal app ask for a server name at all?

Because MT5 signs in with a trading account number, a trading password, and a server name rather than an email address — the mobile app follows the same rule as any other installation. The number and the server are shown in the Personal Area; the trading password was set when the account was created and is reset there if it is lost.

Can leverage be changed without a computer?

Yes. The leverage setting of each trading account lives in the Personal Area, reachable in the phone browser, and the Exness Trade app carries the account settings as well. Neither route needs anything but the handset.

Is a demo MT5 account worth opening on a phone?

It costs nothing and answers the only question that matters up front: whether a small screen suits a person's way of trading before any money is involved. A demo account carries virtual funds and the same market prices as a real one, opens in the Personal Area, and signs into both mobile routes. How a demo is opened →

What happens to an MT5 setup if a computer is added later?

Nothing has to be rebuilt. The account was never stored on the phone: the same account number, trading password, and server name sign in wherever the terminal is installed, and the Personal Area is the same web page on any screen.

Does trading from a phone change what an order costs?

No. Costs belong to the pricing of the account rather than to the device — mainly the spread, the gap between the buy and the sell price. A handset order and a desktop order on the same account meet the same conditions. Account types and pricing →

The MT5 account is opened on the same screen that will trade it

Registration is a short web form on the official Exness website — an email address and a questionnaire, followed by identity verification inside the Personal Area with the handset camera. Choosing MT5 for the trading account opens both mobile doors described above at once. How registration runs →
